AME Course Duration & Pattern

An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) is basically a person licensed to certify the aircraft or its component for its airworthiness before its release to service.

There is confusion among AME aspirants about the duration of AME course in India as per the latest regulation i.e. CAR-147 (Basic).

Course Duration

The duration of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course is 03 years, which is divided into six semesters of six months each, covering all the modules of respective category. The entire course consists of basic knowledge training, basic knowledge examination, practical training and practical assessment. Both the Theory and practical training is imparted in each semester and accordingly the semester exams are conducted for theory and practical. Further in this Three years training program all the learners of HAE-PUNE, will be imparted the practical training on airports in Maintenance organisations where they will work in an actual working environment. In this duration of three years, learners have to appear for two different types of examinations i.e. Semester Exams and Modules Exams.

Course Pattern

1. Semester Exams :

All the applicable Modules are divided into six semesters. In Each semester both theoretical and practical exams are conducted in the college premises under supervision of DGCA approved Training manager. It is mandatory for a student to put a minimum of 90% attendance in every semester to appear for the semester examination and also for promotion to the next semester. The minimum pass marks in any test or examination is 75%. If anyone fails to clear any paper in semester he/she gets another chance to appear for re-semester within 30days.

2. Module Exams :

Apart from the semester exams every student has to appear Modular Examinations which is conducted by CEO, DGCA, and Govt. of India in various centers in all-over India.. Four sessions of module exams are conducted in a year and a student can appear for five modules in a session. If anyone fails to clear any module, he/she can reappear in the next session. After successful completion of the theory & practical programme, completion of course (or COC) certificate is awarded.

The students after the successful completion of the training are eligible to join as Aircraft Technicians or Trainee Engineers in various domestic or international airlines, like Air India, Jet Airways, Blue Dart Aviation Limited, Spice Jet, Indigo, Go Air, Vistara Airline, Air Asia, Flying clubs, etc., and various other operators in India & abroad. They can also join AMOs (Aircraft Maintenance Organizations) /Maintenance Repair Organizations.
